Lipid and cholesterol testing now available at our offices

Cardiovascular disease (including heart attacks and stroke) are the number one killers of Americans, and risk factors for this begin in childhood. One important way to screen for increased risk is to measure the “lipid profile”—including cholesterol and other related blood tests. We can now routinely and quickly do these tests at our office from a drop of blood.

Based on recent AAP guidelines, we’ll be routinely screening lipids at well checks for all children 10 years and up, as well as some younger children who have other risk factors. Results will be available in minutes. Your child does not have to be fasting to have this test done.

If your child does have increased risks based on this blood test, we’ll recommend ways to help and appropriate follow-up testing. Making changes before your child becomes an adult is the best way to prevent long-term problems.

We’re very happy to announce that Dr. Maryann Fedack will be joining our practice! She’s been with Vickery Pediatrics in Cumming, and Northpoint Pediatrics in Alpharetta. Starting in early April, Dr. Maryann will see patients at our Windward office. She has extensive experience as a pediatric nurse, pediatrician, and mom of twin boys. You’ll love her!

Camp and school physicals and forms

Summer is fast approaching! Your child may need a well check if he or she hasn’t had one in over a year. If you’ve got camp physical or other forms, please drop them off early. We try to get forms completed within a week—and we don’t charge for routine camp, sports, immunization, or other forms. If it’s essential that you get a form completed very quickly, we offer expedited 24 hour service, when possible, for a $10 charge.

Our Kids Time after hours pediatric centers have made the news– We’re featured in today’s Atlanta Journal Constitution!

Along with several other local pediatricians, your doctors at Pediatric Physicians PC have helped establish the Kids Time centers, so your children can see a genuine, experienced, board-certified pediatrician for after hours care. The feedback from families who’ve been to Kids Time has been overwhelmingly positive. We know kids don’t always get sick when our office is open. If you need to have your child evaluated for common problems like earaches, fever, or cough after hours, Kids Time is your best bet. Electronic prescriptions now available

We’re happy to announce a new benefit for our patients, at no extra cost. If you wish, we can now transmit most prescriptions electronically to your favorite pharmacy. That should cut down waiting times*, and help you avoid the hassle of dropping off the paper prescription. If you’d like to have your prescriptions sent via Surescripts to your pharmacy, bring in your pharmacy’s address and phone number (this is only necessary the first time we use the system with your child.) Of course, we can also print a traditional paper prescription if you prefer.

*The exact waiting time for a prescription depends on your pharmacy—call them for their policies on time to expect an e-prescription to be filled. Note that pharmacies will typically not mix liquid medications until you enter the store to pick it up.
